Due to its small size and inland location, it’s expected many travellers will use the connection as a launching point to explore the bustling seaside cities of Sousse and Monastir, both within an hour’s drive of the airport and home to a winning combination of opulent resorts and fascinating cultural attractions.
Perhaps an unlikely contender, the property is, in fact, one of the most family-friendly hotels in London; there are in-room games consoles (this grande dame is no Luddite), children’s films on DVD, Ritz teddy bear souvenirs, Cocci Nella toiletries, mini bathrobes and slippers, recently redesigned to be more minimal and in keeping with the adult version.
Other hotspots include Swift Borough, where the latest autumn cocktail menu features 14 tipples that pay tribute to the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of the city south of the Thames, with nods to landmarks like Crystal Palace and the Greenwich Meridian.
“We expect this to be a popular route with the leisure market, which has seen a strong comeback since 2019, as well as with those looking to enjoy direct flights to visit friends and family,” says Neil Chernoff, BA chief planning and strategy officer.
In August, LHR reported a decline of 90,000 passengers on routes included in the trial with the seven Middle Eastern countries since the scheme was introduced in November 2023 by the previous Conservative government, describing the program as “devastating for our hub competitiveness.”
